According to the G.O.No: 712 Edn (CS), Dated: 21st May 1980, “the function of the SCERT will be as follows:

i. To act as an agent of change in school education and life- long non-formal education in general and in teacher-education in particular.
ii. To arrange for the in-service training and orientation of supervisory Inspecting officers dealing with the pre-school, elementary, secondary and higher secondary education in state.
iii. To arrange for the in-service training of teacher educators working in the teacher training institution for the teachers working at all the stages of education from pre-school through higher secondary.
